Dear Smart Growth Coalition Supporter,

The holiday season is upon us and we would like you to take a few minutes to think about SGC. During this past year, our financial supporters have enabled us to meet the many challenges. You may view a summary of them HERE

As we look into next year, our plan is to carry out four distinct programs. The first program is an extension of what we have been doing in the past, monitoring and reporting on county government activities. This year in addition to our Yahoo Smart Growth Coalition Group, we are also including educational initiatives through our website, forums and a quarterly newsletter.

The second program, is one necessary to protect property values while sustaining our natural resources. It includes the continuation of our lawsuit against the county to declare developments submitted under the illegal LESA Loosli amendment null and void.

A third important program, is our involvement in the update of Fremont County’s Comprehensive Plan and Development Code. SGC’s written review, public comment and leadership will influence the future of our county.

And finally, our disclosure of the de facto developments created by illegal lot splits is an example of the oversight necessary to enforce state statutes and our own development code. We must insist that county officials follows the rules and that they are applied in the same manner for everyone.

We also believe that landowners should understand how to take advantage of increasing land values without selling their land. SBC supports implementation of policies that encourage competitive alternatives such as: transfer of development rights (TDRs), open space bonds, conservation easements, and tax incentives.
